Your wellness is important. But what is wellness exactly? The official definition of wellness from the World Health Organization (WHO) is:

"...a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

 

The National Wellness Institute defines wellness as:

 

"a conscious, self-directed and evolving process of achieving full potential."

Collaborating with a health and wellness coach doesn't just mean working on issues related to a medical condition. Your job, your relationships, and your ability to manage stress all greatly impact your wellbeing.

 

A 360° Approach

When you work with me, I take into account all facets of your life, and can help provide the clarity and insight that will help you identify obstacles to achieving greater wellbeing; the support to take meaningful action; and the accountability to sustain your efforts, so that you finally make real progress. How? By utilizing a technique called motivational interviewing (MI), which has been shown in numerous studies to spark deeper insights and long-lasting behavior change. And by working closely with you to understand who you are and what makes you tick, and using those insights to create a customized plan of action. 

 

Coaching for Health and Wellness

As a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), I've been extensively trained and tested on MI, and I incorporate it into my coaching.  It's not enough for a coach to just tell you what to do—you've got to want to do it for yourself. Finding and maintaining the motivation to take action toward your health and wellness goals takes more than willpower. It requires deep introspection, and research is showing that often it takes a coaching partnership.
